In 1770 a survey about Spanish State�s brotherhoods was made to impede possible abuse. In this work, a historiographic contribution is presented with answers given by the villages of the current province of Castellón as well as a contextual location of these institutions (socio-political and cultural framework, authorities� opinion about its survival, mesures to adopt in the future and legal questions linked to the mood of governors and intellectuals of the time).
