One of the greatest treasures of the natural heritage of Castelló is the Columbretes Archipelago, about 30 nautical miles off the coast, covering about 19 hectares and protected by the Valencian Government since 1988. In 1991, a monograph was published with all the available information about the land and sea environment there (Alonso et al., 1991). Since then, several scientific publications have been generated, mainly related to birds or reptiles, but not including studies of, for example, the climate, flora, invertebrates and the human imprint. Now we know that the islands’ climate is warmer and rainier than had previously been described. The available data about non-marine invertebrates on the islands has been updated, together with other information and, for the first time, stories about the lives of the inhabitants of the old lighthouse have been transcribed.
