The manual, which is accompanied by a teaching guide sold apart, allows a start in the basic principles ruling the practice of professional translation in that linguistic combination. It is directed towards translation students with a Spanish mother tongue (direct translation) in the context of university training of translators, but it is also possible to use it in other pedagogical contexts. Its purpose is to initiate the development of the basic competences prior to the learning of the diverse specialisation fields of the translator. Thereby, it tries to establish the foundations for the subsequent development of the necessary translating competences for the direct translation from French to Spanish. Amparo Hurtado Albir is a professor of Translation Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She is considered to be an essential reference of translation theory and training of translators.
