Scientific and historical teaching often focuses on significant events that are considered essential in the development of the human species. However, to understand the revolutions that have taken place, it is necessary to study what has happened locally, close to us. In other words, we can say that remembering our origins means not forgetting the reasons for our existence. Studying the roots of Castelló therefore allows us to understand how the city operated in the Ancien Regime. As part of the commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the new Castelló de la Plana Town Hall building, the publication of this study on the old Council of Castelló has been carried out by the municipal council and the Universitat Jaume I. It is a detailed analysis showing how the municipal institution worked at the time, who occupied the local offices and the oligarchies related to power. This book shows the political workings of a small town during the Habsburg period in the 17th century and the sources of power delimited by the region’s privileges and legal system.
