For hundreds of years, the lives and works of female composers, performers and/or conductors of orchestras have been silenced and sometimes even ignored. It wasn’t until the 1970s and 80s that a considerable number of female musical references who have been of great importance to our history began to be collected in the English-speaking world. This book takes us on a journey that allows us to get closer to some of these women and the society in which they lived. It also describes the different mechanisms and initiatives that are favouring their slow yet steady inclusion in today’s society.
